TIAA-CREF Q2 Activity: Significant ETF Purchases and Sales Observed

As of June 30th, 2026, TIAA-CREF Individual & Institutional Services, a major investor in America with substantial holdings totaling nearly $29 billion, has shown notable activity across its portfolio. The analysis of their changed_holdings reveals specific increases and decreases compared to the previous quarter.

One of the most striking changes was the significant increase in shares held for several ETFs. VUG, the Vanguard U.S. Growth ETF, saw its share count rise by an impressive 493.57%, adding approximately 16.99 million new shares to their position worth $1.76 billion in value during this period.

Similarly, IWF, the iShares Russell Top 200 Growth ETF, experienced a substantial increase of about 3.1 million shares (310.26% growth), boosting its portfolio allocation to $524 million.

Another large purchase was observed in VO, the Vanguard Mid-Cap ETF, where TIAA-CREF added roughly 4.02 million shares (292.73% increase) valued at $435 million.

These large inflows into growth-oriented and mid-cap focused exchange-traded funds suggest confidence in these segments of the market by this institutional investor during Q2 2026.

In contrast, TIAA-CREF also reduced its position in IEFA, the iShares Core MSCI EAFE ETF (approximately $1.91 billion worth), by decreasing shares by 0.26 million (-2.51%) during the quarter.

Additionally, they decreased their stake in IWX, the iShares Russell Top 200 Value ETF (worth $1.04 billion), by about 3.8% (-$381,800 shares).

Furthermore, they exited their position entirely in IWY, the iShares Russell Top 200 Growth ETF (valued at $1.39 billion), reducing it by approximately -5.86% (-$296,614 shares).

The investor's portfolio also includes significant holdings in bond funds and other fixed income instruments like AGG (iShares Core U.S. Aggregate Bond ETF) which saw an increase of about 14% during the quarter.

The overall portfolio allocation shows TIAA-CREF maintaining a diversified approach, with substantial exposure to various sectors and asset classes beyond just equities.
